🎯 Early Decision (ED)

Early Decision is a binding application. If a student is admitted, they are expected to enrol and withdraw applications from other universities.

Best for:

• Students with a genuine first-choice university.

• Families comfortable with the financial commitment.

• Applicants with a strong academic profile.

Many universities fill a significant proportion of their incoming class through Early Decision, making it a powerful option—but only when used strategically.

🚀 Early Action (EA)

Early Action allows students to apply early without committing to attend if admitted.

Benefits include:

For many students, Early Action offers an excellent balance between demonstrating interest and keeping options open.

🔒 Restrictive or Single-Choice Early Action

Some highly selective universities offer Restrictive Early Action, limiting where else a student may apply early.

Although these applications are generally non-binding, the rules vary between institutions and should be carefully understood before applying.

📖 Regular Decision (RD)

Regular Decision is the standard application cycle used by most universities.

It provides students with additional time to improve grades, strengthen extracurricular activities, refine essays and, if appropriate, improve SAT or ACT scores before submitting their applications.

Universities with Rolling Admissions review applications as they are received until available places are filled.

For these institutions, applying early often provides an advantage simply because more places remain available.
